The Iraqi War
 

In 2003, after years of defying nuclear inspectors and U.N. directives, A U.S-and British-led coalition attacked Iraq. Victory was swift. Within three weeks Baghdad fell liberating 26 million Iraqis from the brutal reign of Saddam Hussein.

Hussein was captured nines months later. Sovereignty was returned to an interim Iraqi government in 2004 and the war officially ended. Free elections were held in 2005. U.S. soldiers are still assisting Iraqi soldiers fighting an insurgency.

2,200 U.S. soldiers have died. 16,000 have been wounded.
