The French and Indian Wars

The French and Indian War—part of the larger 7-Year War between England and France—was the war in which France lost virtually all its possessions in North America.

Fought on American and Canadian soil from 1755 through 1763, the war pitted British American soldiers (including a young George Washington) against the French and their Algonquin and Huron allies. Iroquois fought alongside the British.

Despite early losses at Fort William Henry and Fort Duquesne, The British quickly gained the upper hand with decisive victories at Fort Niagara and The Plains of Abraham. The French lost all of Canada and ceased being a meaningful colonial power in North America.
Many of King George’s victorious soldiers would meet a generation later—on opposite sides--during the American revolution.
