The War of 1812

The Second War of Independence

King George III never really got over losing the colonies. After the Revolution he kept making attempts to recapture America. By 1812, America had had enough. The war lasted two years. Before it was over Washington would burn, The U.S. would invade Canada. And an American prisoner aboard an English vessel would write The Star Spangled Banner while watching the Battle of Baltimore.

The United States of America emerged from the war as a credible naval power. Victories at sea included The USS Constitution over “The Guerrier,” and The Battle of Lake Champlain.
Other notable battles include The Battle of New Orleans and The Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

When the war ended U.S. sovereignty established forever. The U.S. lost 2,260 American men. 4,505 were wounded in action. The British suffered similar casualties.
